THE MODERN TECHNOLOGIES OF TEACHING VOCABULARY

 Abstract. Vocabulary acquisition lies at the heart of language proficiency, yet traditional rote-memorization methods often fail to sustain learner motivation or produce long-term retention. This article examines modern technological tools and approaches for teaching vocabulary in the EFL classroom, including mobile applications, spaced repetition systems, gamification, multimedia-based learning, corpus tools, and artificial intelligence-driven platforms. The study analyzes how these technologies support the cognitive processes underlying vocabulary acquisition — repetition, contextualization, and active recall — while increasing learner engagement. Practical recommendations are offered for integrating digital tools into vocabulary instruction in ways that complement, rather than replace, sound pedagogical principles. The findings indicate that when technology is combined with structured strategy instruction, learners demonstrate improved retention, faster recall, and greater autonomy in vocabulary learning.
