Abstract

Abstract. The development of international tourism has intensified
communication between representatives of different linguistic and cultural
communities. In contemporary tourism discourse, guide-interpreters perform not only translation but also mediation functions that facilitate intercultural understanding and communication. This article examines the practical features of mediation in tourism communication and analyzes the linguistic, cultural, informational, psychological, and conflict-management functions of guideinterpreters. The study demonstrates that mediation extends beyond language transfer and involves adaptation of information, explanation of cultural realities, prevention of misunderstandings, emotional support, and coordination of communication. Special attention is devoted to the challenges faced by guideinterpreters in multicultural environments and the competencies required for effective mediation. The findings confirm that successful tourism communication depends on a combination of linguistic proficiency, intercultural competence, emotional intelligence, and professional ethics.
