INNOVATIVE METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES IN ENGLISHLANGUAGE

Abstract

 Abstract. In recent decades, the Communicative Language Teaching
(CLT) approach has becomeoneofthe most influential methodologies in the field of foreign language education. The central goalofCLT is to enable learners to use the target language effectively and appropriatelyinreal-lifecommunication. Unlike traditional grammar-translation or audio-lingual methods, whichfocuson accuracy and repetition, CLT emphasizes fluency, interaction, and meaningful communication [1]. It has become one of the most influential approaches in modern language education. This paper examines the effectiveness of CLT in developing the four core English language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — among secondary school and university students. The study analyses theoretical foundations of CLT, its key principles, and practical implementation in
EFL/ESL classrooms. Special attention is paid to the development of
communicative competence, learner motivation, and the role of authentic materials and real-life tasks. The findings suggest that CLT significantly improves learners’ fluency, confidence, and functional language use compared to traditional grammartranslation methods. However, challenges such as large class sizes, limited resources, and examination-oriented educational systems often hinder its full  implementation. The paper concludes with recommendations for effective integration of CLT principles in diverse teaching contexts.
